ASHWAUBENON, Wis. - A free throw, that's what ended the Central High School's girls basketball season, a game ... a point away from a state championship bid.

It’s been quite a ride for Central High School’s girls basketball team.

A bumpy ride mostly, but a ride to the WIAA Division 2 state tournament all the same.

The Red Raiders (21-5) have grinded their way back to the tournament for the first time since second-place finishes in both 1994 and 1995.

I do not pretend to know much about college basketball.

My mom could – and will - probably pick a better bracket than I could - no offense to moms out there, but mine doesn’t particularly care about sports, minus Facebook pictures of Aaron Rodgers that aren’t so much about football.

MADISON – He’s 6-foot-10. He’s the fourth-ranked player in the class of 2015 on rivals.com. And he was too much for Blair-Taylor High School’s boys basketball team to handle.

In the WIAA Division 4 state championship Saturday, junior Diamond Stone had 28 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks in leading Whitefish Bay Dominican to a 74-50 win at the Kohl Center and its third consecutive state title.

Caledonia a win from state title shot

The Caledonia High School boys basketball team is a game away from a state championship berth.

That's something it hasn’t done since head coach Josh Diersen, and assistant Jeremy Leis, helped it win back in 1997.

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. - The shooting wasn't there, so Brittany Baldwin did what any good player does when the jumper isn't falling.

The 5-foot-7 senior guard got to the free-throw line. Baldwin went 7-for-10 from the stripe, scored 15 points, dished out seven assists and had seven rebounds in leading the Central High School girls basketball team to a game from the state tournament.
