HS Football: Logan takes the ark from Central

Five points, 3 minutes, 67 yards, 3,000 fans and the 88
th meeting for one ark - no problem.

Call them the odd couple: a 5-foot-10, 155-pound quarterback named Mitchell Schreiner and his 230-pound running back, Calvin Wright.

The two led Logan High School’s football team to a ridiculous fourth-quarter, winning drive – capped off by a Wright 11-yard touchdown with 37 seconds remaining - to take the Ark of Victory in the intra-city rivalry over Central, 30-20.

UW-L FB: Walsh rumblin' stumblin'

All the momentum had shifted.

A crowd-oohing stick by UW-La Crosse senior Brett Benson forced a fumble.

Teammate Andy Walsh, all 260 pounds of him, picked it up and pulled the plow 53 yards for a touchdown, seemingly tip-toeing the sideline every step of the way.

Packers looked good, Seahawks looked better

The Green Bay Packers looked like a Super Bowl bound team Sunday.

The Washington Redskins were never in the mix and the 38-20 score is no indication to how lopsided a win this was at Lambeau Field on Sunday afternoon.

Nobody in the NFC looked better, but, perhaps, that’s because the front runners in the NFC played each other later that night … and only one  team looked any good.

UW-L FB can't recover from slow start

Sometimes, it looks like the first game of the season.

For the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse football team, that was exactly the case - figuratively and literally.

The defense didn’t show up to start. The offense took the first quarter off and, before the Eagles knew it, they had a 21-point deficit.

That was too much to overcome Saturday. UW-L scored with 13 seconds remaining in the contest to make it a 35-24 loss to the University of Dubuque at Veterans Memorial Field.
