Teams advance by combined 61-point margin

This is already the most-lopsided men’s Final Four since 1968 — and we still have the championship game to play tonight.

Sure, Villanova’s record 44-point semifinal victory over Oklahoma skews the numbers. But adding North Carolina’s 17-point win over Syracuse makes that a combined margin of 61 points.

Tipoff for tonight’s championship is set for 8:15 p.m. Listen live on AM 580 or stream right here.

Back in 1968, when John Wooden and UCLA were in the midst of 10 national championships over 12 seasons, the Bruins beat Houston 101-69 in the semifinal game.

UCL then won the title game 78-55 over North Carolina, which had won its semifinal game by 14 points. That’s a combined margin of 69 points for the three games played in that Final Four.

It has been 10 years since all three games in a Final Four were determined by double figures.

When both semifinal games were last double-figure outcomes in 2008, Kansas needed overtime to win the national championship over Memphis.
