Leaf resigned after player said coach
made drunken, sexual advances toward him

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University’s president says an independent investigation into complaint against former men’s basketball coach Mike Leaf has found no evidence of wrongdoing.

The investigation began June 21 after a basketball player accused Leaf of providing alcohol and making unwanted sexual advances with him after he had passed out in Leaf’s bed, among other things.

Leaf was placed on administrative leave the next day and was barred from campus. He chose to resign his position on June 26.

WSU president Scott Olson said today the investigation found no evidence of a discriminatory act or any abuse of students. Olson also says there was no evidence the athletic staff was trying to hide anything.

Longtime employment attorney Steven Gunn conducted the investigation, which cost the school just over $25,000.

During his 17 year tenure as head coach, Leaf led the school to 382 wins and two Division II national championships.
