Junior will follow in Koenig’s footsteps to Wisconsin

La Crosse Central High School’s Kobe King announced where he intends to play collegiate basketball.

The 6-foot-4 junior guard will follow in the footsteps of Bronson Koenig, announcing his commitment to play for the University of Wisconsin on Wednesday.

Several schools were after the four-star recruit, including Iowa State, Marquette, Drake, Northern Iowa and Valparaiso.

King averaged 15.8 points, 6.3 rebounds last season for the Red Raiders, who are 38-10 the past two years with him in the lineup.

Koenig, an Aquinas High School graduate, will be a junior for the Badgers this season. King committed to the Badgers, despite coach Bo Ryan’s wavering on whether he’ll be the coach after this season.

King’s father, Chris, played for Wake Forest, averaging 15.2 points, 6.1 rebounds in 113 games, before playing in the NBA for the Supersonics, Jazz and Grizzlies. Chris’ cousin is Jimmy King. He’s the guard most famous for being part of the Michigan freshman class of 1992, nicknamed the Fab Five, which also included Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose and Ray Jackson. Jimmy King was drafted by the Toronto Raptors and played 62 games in the NBA.
