MADISON – La Crosse Logan High School’s football team was a game from a state championship berth.

It lost to Monona Grove 28-14 in the state semifinals on Nov. 15.

Friday, Monona Grove came back from a double-digit halftime deficit to win the WIAA Division 3 state title, defeating Greendale 21-17 at Camp Randall.

Greendale (13-1) was up 17-0 at halftime and didn’t get on the board until there was just 3:09 left in the third quarter.

That’s when Jackson Riley hauled in a 46-yard pass from Tyler Blang. The quarterback then hit Trey Powers from 34 out with 8:18 left to pull within 17-14.

And it wasn’t until there was 53 seconds left that Monona Grove (14-0) took the lead when Brock Offerdahl ran it in from a yard out for the win.

That run capped off a 10-play, 72-yard drive.

Toren Young rushed for 150 yards on 31 carries for Monona Grove, while Blang was 9-for-17 for 217 yards with the two touchdowns and one interception.

DIVISION 2

Holmen was a first-down catch away from running out the clock and qualifying for the state semifinals.

After failing to complete a fourth-down conversion, Oshkosh North took over, tied the game and forced two overtimes, where it won 33-27.

North easily waltzed into the state title match with a 38-0 win over Menasha, but that’s as far as it got.

Kimberly capped off a 14-0 season with a 51-10 win for the Division 2 state title over Oshkosh North (13-1).

Scott Schreiber rushed for a 100 yards and four touchdowns for Kimberly, which was up just 14-10 at halftime but scored 21 in the third and 16 more unanswered points in the fourth.
